George106 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 (edited) Hi guys, I need to advise what shall I do? I do experience steering wheel vibration mostly when accelerating at 5th or 6st gear from 60mph up. I have been told by my garage this is outer drive shaft problem and they want to change both sides to sort this out. Update: I spent whole day waiting in the garage before they got drive shafts from Eurocarparts's main warehouse. After they fitted both outer driveshafts I went for a test drive and vibrations are still present. Again it vibrates just when accelerating from 55mph upwards in 5th or 6th gear. There were also some vibrations when decelerating but not as bad as when accelerating. Vibrations at 3k revs disappeared completely. They are scratching their heads and don't know what else could cause these vibrations. They mentioned it may be caused by differential but not sure. Also denied any problems with clutch, transmition as these vibration would persist all the time. I don't have any idea if all these problems are related. George106 Posted June 25, 2010 Author Report Posted June 25, 2010 Hi thereDMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) sounds like the culprit. Have been in the garage this morning again ans as I remembered I do experience some juddering when in the 1st gear going over speed bumps etc. They lifted gal and we tried to release clutch pedal sharply when in the 1st gear and you can hear some noise in differential like something is loose. Also if you put handbrake on when on the ground and try to move forward in the first gear, there is something moving like engine in the chassis. Checked rear engine mouth which look OK. I have been told, they think transmittion removal and clutch, DMF renewal is necessary to sort it out. Now I am puzzled how much would it cost to have it done  George Quote

George106 Posted December 25, 2010 Author Report Posted December 25, 2010 Small update, when I had my gal serviced (cam belt changed), I have been shown inner half shaft and gearbox stub connection has some movement and no grease (may cause vibrations) which could be described as excessive if I consider these bits were changed in August 2009 approx. 23k miles ago. I have already ordered uprated non-genuine halfshaft assembly from polish motomax.eu for 225.50 quid delivered (thanks to Mirez who bought this shaft assembly first and negotiated some discount for this club members)and hopefully would be fitted soon. I'll post my findings later if this driveshaft sorts the problem out. George Quote
bj2004 Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 I had similar fault earier this year noticed between 45 an 55 mph on acceleration ha 2 new front tyres just befor after doing about 3k miles its stopped so you could try swapping wheels front to back Quote

George Hi mate, I don't know if this is related to your problem but twice I have had faulty Goodyear tyres on the rear of the Gal. I once swapped the rear tyres with the front ones and then the fault really showed up, vibrating through the steering wheel at about 55MPH. I now run Pirelli P6s and have found them to last longer.
